For over three decades, Somali fishing communities have been neglected due to the ongoing civil conflict and illegal fishing activities that have devastated local fisheries. Fishermen in Jazeera Beach, located just outside of Mogadishu, faced immense challenges due to the lack of proper fishing equipment. Without the necessary gear, many of them struggled to sustain their livelihoods and provide for their families.
In response to their plight, Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo), founder of Yasmin Foundation, met with the fishermen and provided them with snorkeling gear. Snorkeling has become a popular and effective method for deep-sea fishing, and the new equipment allowed the fishermen to fish more efficiently and expand their businesses.
The fishermen expressed their gratitude, noting that the new gear would help them grow their businesses and improve their ability to feed their families. Yasmin Foundation remains committed to continuing its support for fishing communities by providing more equipment and resources in the future.
