In 2010, the elders of Ceel Cirfiid, a town located in Balcad district of Middle Shabeelle, reached out to Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo), the founder of Yasmin Foundation, expressing their concerns about the lack of access to clean water and the absence of educational institutions in the region. Families in the town had to travel long distances to reach water sources, and there were no schools for the children.
After assessing the situation, Ambassador Americo and his team decided to take action. Yasmin Foundation successfully completed its first project in the region by drilling a functional borehole. This borehole has been a lifeline for the people of Ceel Cirfiid, providing a reliable water source that continues to sustain the community to this day.
Building on this success, in August 2014, Yasmin Foundation took on a second project in the area — the construction of Yasmin School. The school has since provided free and high-quality education to over 200 students. In addition to supplying the school with necessary educational resources, the foundation ensured the employment of qualified staff to manage the school efficiently.
The foundation’s efforts didn’t stop there. Recognizing the need for healthcare, additional facilities were constructed within the school to serve as medical clinics. These clinics cater primarily to vulnerable children and pregnant women, providing critical healthcare services and helping to reduce maternal mortality in the area. Many mothers in Ceel Cirfiid had previously faced dangerous conditions during childbirth due to the lack of medical care.
The successful completion of both the borehole and the school has dramatically improved the quality of life for the people of Ceel Cirfiid. Not only do children now have access to education, but families are also healthier and safer. The foundation’s work in Ceel Cirfiid has brought hope and a brighter future for the community and its younger generations.
