Islamic education holds great value in Somali culture, with madrassas (Quran schools) playing a central role in religious education. However, many of these madrassas are in poor condition, often made of thatched grass and sticks, which provide little protection from the elements.
In 2020, Yasmin Foundation took steps to improve the quality of education in Ceel Cadde Town by constructing a new madrassa building made of corrugated iron sheets. This new structure has created a much safer and more conducive environment for both students and teachers, allowing them to focus on learning without the challenges posed by poor infrastructure.
The improvement of Quran schools is part of Yasmin Foundation’s broader mission to enhance education across Somalia, including both secular and religious education, ensuring that Somali children have access to quality learning environments.
